DEPUTY
PROBATION OFFICER (0614AG-JAD)
Salary Range (approximate): $21.03 - $30.88 Hourly; $3,645.68 -
$5,353.08 Monthly ($43,748.12 - $64,236.94 Annually)
Position Information: The Deputy Probation Officer (DPO) class
is the entry and journey working level of the DPO Class series. Higher-level
classes in the series are Senior DPO (up to approximately $5.930
monthly) and Supervising DPO (up to approximately $6,976 monthly).
Duties: DPO's provide a variety of services to the Court, victims
of crime and the community. Typical duties include, but are not limited
to: The enforcement of the conditions of probation and report probationer
progress to the Court; the preparation of complex case histories and
written reports to the Court; and the development and implementation
of treatment plans to aid probationer rehabilitation efforts.
Education/Experience Required:
Option 1: A Bachelor's degree, preferably with a major in behavioral
science, social science, psychology, sociology, criminology or a related
field from an accredited college/university. No experience required.
Option 2: Either an Associate's degree from an accredited college/university
OR 60 semester units of academic course-work PLUS two (2) years of experience
in custodial care, probation, parole, treatment counseling, correctional,
patrol, and/or a criminal investigative field. Substitution: Related
experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year
basis up to a maximum of four (4) years.
*Note: Applicants who, at time of submitting their application,
lack sufficient qualifying experience to meet the above standards but
who verify that they are to receive a qualifying degree within four
(4) months of the date their application is filed may be allowed to
compete in the exam process and, depending on performance, participate
in the selection process. However, prior to appointment, such a candidate
must actually possess the qualifying degree.
Special Requirements for Deputy Probation Officer and Corrections Services Officer I Positions:
1. Must possess at time of application, and thereafter maintain, a valid California Driver License.
2. Pursuant to the Penal and Government Codes must also:
a. Be at least 18 years of age; and,
b. NOT be a convicted felon; and,
c. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien who has applied for citizenship.
(Note: If hired, a permanent resident alien must provide proof of their application status with the Immigration and Naturalization Service [INS]. Failure to cooperate with the INS, to maintain required status or to be denied citizenship will result in dismissal from employment.
